    Humayun's Tomb

    attraction

    Nizamuddin, Delhi

    16th-century Mughal garden-tomb and UNESCO World Heritage Site that inspired the Taj Mahal; UNESCO calls it the dormitory of the Mughals. Sunder Nursery next door needs its own ticket.

    Qutub Minar

    Mehrauli, Delhi

    UNESCO-listed 13th-century minaret with the Alai Darwaza gate and Iron Pillar in its grounds. Its spiral staircase has been closed to climbers since a fatal 1981 stampede; view it from outside.

    India's largest mosque, commissioned by Shah Jahan and finished in 1658, its courtyard holds thousands. Dress conservatively, remove shoes, and expect a camera-permit fee if carrying one.

    Lutyens' 1931 sandstone war memorial anchoring Kartavya Path (once Rajpath), with over 13,000 soldiers' names inscribed. Its eternal flame merged into the nearby National War Memorial in 2022.

    Lotus Temple

    Fariborz Sahba's 1986 Bahai House of Worship, its 27 marble petals open to all faiths in a garden setting near Nehru Place. Like most Delhi monuments, it closes on Mondays.

    700-year-old shrine of Sufi saint Nizamuddin Auliya, who famously kept his distance from Delhi's sultans. Thursday evenings after Maghrib prayer bring live qawwali in the marble courtyard.

    National Museum

    Inaugurated in 1949 and moved to its Janpath building in 1960, India's national collection runs from prehistory to the present. Closed Mondays and national holidays.
